THE TEN MINUTE DISHWASHER!
Many of our clients host large events at their home. A constant problem with a large crowd is the clean up of glasses, utensils and plates both during the event and after. For years we have been specifying Hobart as the workhorse, short cycle dishwasher and it has performed well, but it had its own special nuances. For example, there was no dry cycle which meant you had to have an adjacent drip area to stack the wet racks (no hardwood floors anywhere near here), it offered little in specialized options for serving pieces and larger items, sounded like a freight train and used rather toxic, commercial detergents.
All of this has changed with the introduction of the new Miele G7856 Commercial style dishwasher. This machine offers a ten minute wash cycle with various length dry cycles, uses 6 gallons of water, residential dishwashing detergent and has Miele dual insulation to minimize sound. One other very attractive feature is the variety of both inserts and actual replacement racks to optimize the specific use of the machine which will vary in each installation. The 11 inserts and 15 rack options include glasses, wine glasses, trays, serving pieces, cups, cutlery and a variety of plate sizes. Hello Cupcake!
We were sitting in a lovely Marin hillside home getting ready to begin a kitchen remodel recently when an old story came up. Those verdant, desirable valleys have some distinct characteristics that need to be considered during a remodel – the charming streets are winding and narrow and sound travels in all directions, rapidly and loudly. So, we related a client from years ago who decided to bake cupcakes to announce the commencement of her remodel. This woman went door to door to all of her neighbors, gave them a cupcake, told them about her remodel, apologized for any inconvenience, gave them a business card and asked that they please call her with any comments or complaints. Yes, things came up during the renovation but they knew who to contact and understood their problems would be addressed – a small gesture that went a long way. Lesson learned.

Frank Gundry’s magnificent photography has graced the walls of Studio Mehler for the past couple of years. Frank lost his youngest son William earlier this month and we wish to extend our deepest sympathy to the family. William, also a budding photographer, had the inherent wit and charm of his dad and will be sorely missed.
We welcome the addition of Atlantis Outdoor Kitchens to Studio Mehler.
